In this work, Pamela Comeau gives visual form to the subtle tension between what we understand about the past and what we try to foresee in the future. Two seemingly similar figures appear side by side within a pared-down composition, like two states of the same consciousness. One feels clearer and more defined, while the other dissolves into a soft blur, beautifully expressing the distance between the clarity of memory and the uncertainty of what is still to come.

Through her sensitive treatment of the figure and her restrained visual language, the artist creates a quiet, introspective atmosphere. The colour contrasts, softened contours, and understated gesture all deepen this sense of reflection. The painting brings us back to a deeply human truth: it is often easier to look back on what has been lived than to clearly perceive what lies ahead.

I loosen up https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/en/product/i-loosen-up/ Sat, 06 Jun 2026 17:56:53 +0000 https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/product/i-loosen-up/ Original artwork.

Inspired by the world of Hilma af Klint, I loosen up enters an abstract approach in which creation becomes a passage into the subconscious. Pamela Comeau explores a more intuitive gesture, allowing shapes, colours, and lines to emerge as though they came from an inner space that cannot be fully named. Floating forms, layered colours, and delicate interactions create a composition that feels free, vibrant, and mysteriously balanced.

Through this work, the artist embraces a kind of creative release, accepting not to control everything so the image can come to life on its own. The organic shapes, black contours, and transparent areas suggest a symbolic, almost spiritual language, where each element seems to carry its own energy. Echoing Hilma af Klint’s vision, Pamela Comeau suggests that art may arise from an invisible dimension, an intuitive force that guides the hand and reveals a sensitive way of seeing the world.

Open the bag https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/en/product/open-the-bag/ Sun, 26 Oct 2025 19:26:40 +0000 https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/product/open-the-bag/ Original artwork.

Two figures face each other against red and pink fields: a passerby in a safety jacket, a woman in bright sunglasses, and a bird mid-flight.
Open the bag. It’s hard to connect when we’re overburdened. The life-vest jacket stands for emotional self-protection; the sunglasses for our reflex to avoid seeing problems—ours or others’; the bird is a metaphor for release. The work urges us to let go—open your bag and free yourself from what weighs you down.

Oil on wood, 12 × 24.
Against a quiet grey field, two opposing hands: on the left, a lit match; on the right, open scissors; between them, a crumpled paper. Crisp hyperrealism and taut spacing stage the instant a negotiation collapses—contract severed, ideas scrapped. Raking light sharpens skin, metal, and paper textures.

Pamela Comeau delivers striking hyperrealism: two clasped hands in closed handcuffs, veins and steel rendered in crisp chiaroscuro. The horizontal crop heightens the paradox of mastery versus restraint. Subtle neutrals and raking light emphasize skin-to-metal textures and a meditation on human resilience.

"Mon tableau de poisson est une huile sur bois, de 10 pouces de diamètre.

Je pense le titrer La vie dans un bocal. Il représente 6 poissons tropicaux nageant en cercle et s'inspire des six royaumes de la réincarnation, tout en signifiant que la vie tourne toujours en rond, sans début ni fin."

Waking up minutes before midnight https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/en/product/waking-up-minutes-before-midnight/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 21:48:48 +0000 https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/product/waking-up-minutes-before-midnight/ Original artwork.

Waking up Minutes Before Midnight is 20 x 30.  Oil on canvas.

Again, I return to the theme of representing spirit and body by dividing the figures in half - part real, part 'emptiness'.

This painting is about the urgency of realizing we are all connected, and a crisis for one is a crisis for all.  The title, A few minutes before midnight references the doomsday clock.  The human figure is slightly oblivious, while the animals and birds are looking straight at the viewer, imploring awareness.

Risk tolerance https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/en/product/risk-tolerance-tolerance-au-risque/ Thu, 25 Jul 2024 21:17:46 +0000 https://www.galerievieuxstjean.com/product/risk-tolerance-tolerance-au-risque/ Original artwork.

Risk Tolerance comes from a teaching I heard that to live a full life we must be comfortable with risk. It started me thinking about what level of risk we should accept (?) ..and the fine line between courage and stupidity when we do risky things.
These two women represent those thoughts. How interesting it is to walk through life without sunscreen while smoking a joint. Alternatively, to walk with an umbrella, protected, sober.
This is no easy choice.

I think play is very important, especially as you get older. And if you are lucky, you can stay playful right up to the end. It's about balancing your life (juggling) right up to the end, so that even when you fall down, there is fun. Life should be fun until the end.
